How to Slice Leeks

Leeks are part of the onion family, but with a lighter taste than other onions. The white and light green portions of the leek are edible, and serve as a great accompaniment to salads and Asian cuisine. For any recipe, simply slice and add to your favorite dish.

Things You'll Need

• 1 leek stalk
• Knife
• Cutting board

Instructions

1. 

   Rinse leek and pat dry.

2. Hold leek on cutting board at the dark green end and remove base of white bulb with the knife.

3. Slice thinly from the white onion base all the way to the end of the light green silk portion of the leek.

4. Add to your favorite dish.

Tips & Warnings

• Use leeks instead of other onions.

• Rinse hands with lemon to get rid of the onion-y smell.

• Slice leeks away from your body to avoid cutting.

• Don't eat the dark green portion if leeks are over-ripe. It has a wooden taste.
