Leeks are part of the onion family, but with a lighter taste than other onions. The white and light green portions of the leek are edible, and serve as a great accompaniment to salads and Asian cuisine. For any recipe, simply slice and add to your favorite dish.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 leek stalk
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  1. Step 1

    Rinse leek and pat dry.

  2. Step 2

    Hold leek on cutting board at the dark green end and remove base of white bulb with the knife.

  3. Step 3

    Slice thinly from the white onion base all the way to the end of the light green silk portion of the leek.

  4. Step 4

    Add to your favorite dish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use leeks instead of other onions.
  • Rinse hands with lemon to get rid of the onion-y smell.
  • Slice leeks away from your body to avoid cutting.
  • Don't eat the dark green portion if leeks are over-ripe. It has a wooden taste.
