How to Handle Recruiters Calling for Another Job
Think of recruiters as people who sell jobs and employees for a living. Their job is to find candidates for their corporate clients and help candidates find the right position for their skill set. Once you make your resume available online, chances are recruiters are going to start calling. Learning how to explain your skills and current job status will make conversations with recruiters much easier and beneficial for both parties.

1
On your resume, make sure to have a phone number you can be reached at easily. Do not use your work phone because you should be job searching on your own time, not that of your current company.
-
2
When the recruiter calls and you answer the phone, most likely they will want to speak with you about your qualifications, background and career goals. This call can last anywhere from 5 minutes to 25 minutes. If you are in the middle of something else, simply let the recruiter know you are happy to speak with them later. Explain when you will call them back so they can be ready to speak with you.

-
3
When talking about why you want another job, explain what you are looking for in a new position, not what you don't like about your current job.
-
4
Keep your resume nearby so you can refer to it if they have any questions.
-
5
If the job they are recruiting for doesn't sound interesting, let them know right away but make it clear what you are searching for in a job and keep the doors of communication open for future positions.
-
6
If you know someone who might be right for the job, tell the recruiter you'll pass along the job information. Never give anyone else's contact information out. Networking is the lifeblood of the recruiting profession.
-
7
Thank them for their time and keep their contact information so you can check back with them at a later time, if needed.

Tips & Warnings
If a recruiter becomes relentless, simply tell them you are no longer searching for a job or that you only want to be contacted every 3 to 6 months with updates. They will respect your honesty.
