Protect Toddlers from Sunburn

It's so important to protect your childs skin from sunburn. Children have sensitive skin that burns easily, regardless of their skin color. Preventing sun damage in childhood also reduces the risk of skin cancer later on since severe sunburns in childhood can result in melanoma later in life. Take some simple precautions to protect your child's delicate skin.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

Sunscreen lotion (at LEAST 15 SPF)
Hat with UV protection
Lightweight clothing and swimwear that covers shoulders with UV protection.

Step 1

Sun Smarties Infant Beach Cabana Tent

During the hottest part of the day, keep your child out of the sun. This doesn't mean they have to play inside, but you can try to get them to play in the shade. Put up a a small tent in the back yard or on the beach if you don't have any shade providing trees.
Step 2

Blue Lizard Baby SPF 30+

Use PABA-free sunscreen lotion (at least 15 SPF) to help protect your toddler's skin. Apply it about 20-30 minutes BEFORE going outside and reapply every 2-3 hours and whenever she has been in water or sweating a lot. You could also try a sunscreen such as Blue Lizard that has a specially designed bottle that changes color when exposed to harmful UVA rays, reminding you to make sure your Toddler is protected.
Step 3

UV Infant All-in-One Swimsuit-Summer Prints with UPF50+ Sun Protection

Wear UV protective swimwear, cover up's, hats and sunglasses. You can get adjustable sunglasses for your toddler that are like goggles so they can't take them off. There are many places where you can purchase clothing items that are made with UPF 50+ fabric. But most importantly, whether clothing has UPF protection or not, make sure your child always wears a t-shirt and a hat when playing out in the sun.

UV SINGLE Stroller & TANDEM Stroller Sunshade Attachments from UV Sun Gear

Consider purchasing a UV sun shade attachment for your stroller and/or car seat for maximum shade and UV protection.

on 6/30/2008 That is so cool they make clothing that has built in UV protection! We know so much more about the dangers of sun damage now and it would be totally ignorant not to heed the safety precautions such as you mentioned.

on 6/11/2008 You have some good ideas here...but should do dome more research on the danger of sunscreen and how it can actually do FAR more damage then the sun.
Sunscreen is actually TOXIC to humans.
