Decide which kinds of drawer pulls you want to install. If you are replacing existing pulls, you will probably use the same type so you can use the existing screw holes. If you are putting in brand new pulls, there are two basic types: Knobs requiring just one hole, and handles which require two holes.

Installing replacement pulls is quite easy. Take one of your existing pulls along with you to your local hardware and home store to compare dimensions. There are many choices. If you are buying pulls online, be sure you get the measurements exact. Although most handle type pulls are a standard size, you cannot always count on that. It is then usually a matter of simply removing the old pulls and replacing them with the new ones.

Putting on new handles from scratch isn't difficult. You need to measure and mark the location of each hole to drill for the screws. Generally the pulls are installed dead center on the drawer fronts. Put a piece of masking tape where you want each pull to go, and mark for your holes right on the tape. You can drill right through the tape and this will prevent dings from the drill on the wood.

Drill each hole using the appropriate width drill bit -- usually 3/16" -- making sure you keep the drill perpendicular to the surface. Always drill in from the drawer front instead of from the inside of the drawer out to prevent unsightly splintering.

Remove the tape and install the new pulls. Drawer fronts are different widths and it may be that you need washers, or a different length of screw than supplied with the new pulls. If this is the case, always take accurate measurements in to the hardware store with you. Make sure you have checked every drawer front to ensure they are the same width.
