Make Great Homemade Crispy Fries

Who doesn't enjoy great fries. Here's another method to make fantastic fries.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Raw Idaho Potatoes
  • Oil
  • Deep Fryer or skillet
  • Sugar
  • Iced or very cold water
  1. Step 1

    Cut potatoes into strips.
Bring water to a hard boil (enough water to cover the potatoes).
Add approx. 2 tbsps sugar to boiling water.

  2. Step 2

    Turn water off.
Drop carefully potatoes into the hot water and allow to soak for 1 hour.

  3. Step 3

Fry in deep oil at 325° for 5 minutes. Drain. Increase heat to 375° and fry until fries are tender and nicely browned. Place in a paper towel or cloth to absorb much of the oil.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may salt to taste immediately after cooking
  • Great with onions added (cooked with the potatoes)
  • Trie with skins on them...ummm!
  • Be careful with hot water and oil
  • Also good BAKED (just lay on pam sprayed foil)and cook for 20 mins. or till brown!
  • Don't over-eat!

on 10/27/2008 This sounds really good, but is there a way to make homemade french fries by baking them? I'd love to know that. It would save a ton in calories!
