With the rising cost of heating your home these days, a wood stove and a pellet stove are both an excellent way to save money. Here are a few tips to help make your decision easier.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Do you have wood readily available to you in your own back yard? If yes, a wood stove will be a good choice for you. If not, a pellet stove may be the right choice for you.
Step2
Will you clean the stove before each use? If yes, then a wood stove may be right for you. If not, a pellet stove will be a better choice for you. Pellet stoves produce less ash around the home and some have their own ash tray for easier cleaning.
Step3
Are you interested in installing a chimney? A wood stove needs a chimney and a pellet stove only needs a vent very similar to that of a dryer.
Step4
Pellets are made from recycled sawdust. This is a nice way to reduce the cutting down of trees unnecessarilly. Beware not all pellets are created equal. The cheaper pellets will produce more ash (usally made with paper as well as sawdust).

Tips & Warnings

  • Pellet and Wood will save you as much as 60% on fuel costs. Either decision will save you money on your energy bill.
