A family vacation in the Hamptons is a wonderful experience for all.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide how much money you are looking to spend on lodging. There are many houses to rent but the rental fees are steep. I highly recommend staying at one of the Dunes Resorts if you cannot afford a rental home. Not only are these resorts directly on the beach, they have swimming pools and kitchens! Ocean Colony is my personal favorite.

  2. Step 2

Transportation. There is no public transportation in the Hamptons other than the Long Island Rail Road which will not help you get around town. It is highly recommended that you have a car. There is taxi service available but it may be very costly to get from one town to the other and the wait time will generally be long on weekends. If you are able to take your family bikes along with you, you should but also bring locks. Bikes are also available for rent.

  3. Step 3

Hamptons Events. A great place to check the happenings in the Hamptons is to read the Dans Paper @ http://calendar.danshamptons.com/events/?l=4&c=

  4. Step 4

A Hamptons vacation is not only for the rich and famous but if you'd like a peak at the life, here's the link to the local magazine. Even the subscription is expensive at $99 for one year!

  5. Step 5

Beaches. There is a parking fee for all the public beaches. Ride your bikes if possible to avoid this fee. Bring your own food as very little will be available to you on the beach - there is no boardwalk on these beaches. If you are staying on the beach, this doesn't apply to you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clam digging is strictly for residents!
  • Be sure to stay away from budget motels during peak season. These motels are packed with teenagers and twenty somethings. Under age drinking is very much apart of that lifestyle. The noise will be unbearable and you may find uninvited guests popping up at your doorstep or worse yet, right in the middle of your living room (trust me one this one!)
