How to Open a Jar
There will always be those jars that just won't open. Whether it just be a hard jar to open or a jar that has food in the seal. Here are some tips to make your life easier. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- a jar that won't open
- some warm water
- a jar opener if you have arthritis or other problems that make it difficult to open a jar.

The first step in opening a jar is to hit the edge of the lid on a hard surface like concrete or tile floor. This will break the vacuum seal and the lid and it should come off easily. This art may take some practice. You will be able to tell when you hit it right as it will almost make a pop sound. As you do this more often you will know what this pop sound is.

If you have previously opened this jar, and you are having a difficult time opening it, it may have food in the seal where the lid and jar meet. If this is the case and step 1 doesn't work you should soak the lid and jar in warm water for 5 minutes(make sure it is firmly sealed so water doesn't leak into the jar). If you are really hungry and don't have 5 minutes just run the area under hot water being careful not to burn yourself.

Tips & Warnings
practice listening for the pop, you'll get it
buying an electric jar opener makes it even easier than the manual opener
clean jar edge before replacing in refrigerator to prevent this from happening again
be careful not to hit the jar on the ground so hard that you break it
I don't recommend hitting it on kitchen counter tile as this is thinner and more cheaply made than the floor tile and it may break
don't burn yourself
