How to Prevent the Getting the West Nile Virus

The West Nile Virus is spread by Mosquitoes. Often times the side effects are not that serious, however, there is a small part of the population that can develop a severe case of the West Nile Virus. Understanding how to prevent getting the virus will improve your odds of not contracting a serious form of the Virus.

Things You'll Need:

  • Good repellent
  1. Step 1

    When going outdoors always use an insect repellent with an EPA-Registered Active Ingredient. Before applying the repellent read the instructions to ensure that you are properly applying it.

  2. Step 2

    Most mosquitoes come out at dusk and at dawn; be sure to have your repellent on. If it is not too hot wear long sleeves and pants.

  3. Step 3

    Make sure that you have screens on your windows and screened doors; this will help prevent the mosquitoes from entering your house.

  4. Step 4

    Check all the containers around your house, old tires, pots, small wading pools, and anything else that has standing water. Make sure anything that you add water to on a daily basis ex: dog bowls are changed and cleaned daily.
