Step 1
If you drive a pickup truck, a common misconception is that by leaving the tailgate down, you create less of a drag thereby making your truck more aerodynamic and thus more fuel economical.
Rather than lowering it, keep you tailgate in the upright position. This creates a bed of stagnant air. This air will act as a deterrent and block incoming air from creating a drag on the tailgate. -
Step 2
Tint your windows in order to filter sunlight and keep the internal cab temperature at a comfortable level. Using your air conditioner increases your fuel consumption so keep use at a minimum.
-
Step 3
Rather than rolling windows down, use the a vent to keep air flowing. Open windows create drag and increase gas usage.
-
Step 4
Decrease load by emptying all unnecessary weight from the trunk and cab. Increased weight, decreases mileage per gallon.
-
Step 5
Avoid paying for gas with credit cards. The cost to fill up is expensive and credit cards will only increase that amount with interest rates.
-
Step 6
Avoid lifting vehicles. Standard size tires are best for economic driving. Oversized tires cause greater fuel consumption.
-
Step 7
When fueling, fill your tank completely. Less trips to the gas station mean less miles traveled.
-
Step 8
Map your route ahead of time. Driving around lost is not only frustrating, it is a waste of time and fuel.
