How to Paint Pottery with a Bisque Pencil

Bisque pencil comes in many shades and can add wonderful details to your pottery art. The pencil can be used over, or in place of, paint. Resembling charcoal, the bisque pencil can easily be used to blend realistic highlights and shading in your pottery designs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Choose a bisque pencil to start your design.

  2. Step 2

    Sketch a design onto your piece of pottery.

  3. Step 3

    Fill in the necessary areas that will require shading or highlights with your bisque pencil.

  4. Step 4

    Smudge the affected areas using your finger.

  5. Step 5

    Continue until desired look is achieved.

Tips & Warnings
  • Mistakes can be corrected by sanding the area and drawing the design over again.
  • Bisque pencil can't be sharpened with a pencil sharpener. A utility knife must be used.
