Step 1
Understand that the audio tracks shown in the Timeline panel will show you a visual representation of the audio sounds, know as a “waveform.” The higher the waveform, the louder the audio in that track. If you can not see the waveform in a given track, click the triangle next to the audio track’s name to expand the options.
-
Step 2
Next, click “Set Display Style” under “Toggle Track Output” and then click on “Show Waveform.”
-
Step 3
You can also look at the audio clip within the Source Monitor. If the clip is already in the Timeline, double-click on it. Otherwise, drag it directly from the Project panel.
-
Step 4
If the clip you are looking at has both video and audio, view its audio only by clicking on “Toggle Take Audio and Video” button. You may have to click it several times until it shows you the “Take Audio” icon.
-
Step 5
You may also view the audio clip in audio units rather than time units. To do that go to the Audio Mixer panel and choose “Audio Units” from the panel’s menu in the upper right-hand corner. You will notice a change in the Time Ruler at the top of your Timeline panel, from seconds or minutes to Audio Units.
