The Internet makes achieving ordination easy.

No longer does ordination necessarily require years of religious study and education and affiliation with a traditional religion or church. If you want to become a reverend or get ordained, the Internet has made it very easy. To get your certificate of ministry or ministry credentials, there are plenty of choices at many different price points to help you get started.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the Universal Ministries website. For a small fee, this group not only ordains you, but follows up by offering spiritual classes and books on how to perform weddings and baptisms. When you go to the site, you'll see a "Become Ordained Now" link, which you can click on to take your vows and pledges. Order your ordination certificate for either $10 or $20, depending on how fancy you want it.

Visit the the Universal Life Church website, where many people get their start. This non-denominational church offers the same kind of continuing education as well as information on legal issues practicing ministers need to know. Once you complete the information, you can immediately print out your certificate. For a small fee, you can also order additional items such as an ID card or literature.

Go to the Spiritual Humanism website. This group believes in logic and science above all else and thinks that traditional religions are old-fashioned and are based upon historical mystical belief systems. Fill out a form first to become ordained, then order a "clergy package" to get your ordination certificate.

Go to Free Printable Certificates online to cut right to the chase and get a printable ordination certificate you fill in yourself. You should be good at calligraphy or have good handwriting to fill it in, or spend an additional $4 to get a personalized copy. This site is not affiliated with any church, and the certificate is more of a gag than a true statement of any kind of religious calling.

Tips & Warnings

  • Research many religious groups or churches before you decide which one to register through. Although you may be getting ordained for any number of reasons, take it seriously and "practice what you preach."
