How to Remove Rust Spots From the Floor of a Gunite Swimming Pool

With summer just on the horizon it is time to start thinking about dipping into your pool. Don't let unsightly rust stains prevent your warm weather fun, though. This article will give you tips on eliminating and preventing rust spots in your pool.

Things You'll Need

  • PH Minus
  • Sequestering Agent
  • Swimming Pool
  • Plaster
  • If you have rust stains on the bottom of your pool, drop a bit of granular PH Minus into the water. If the water remains still the product will settle to the bottom of the pool and begin working on the rust spots. Obviously, the water has to remain in the pool for this to work.

  • To ensure that your pool stays rust free, have a professional test for PH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness, Stabilizer, and Free Chlorine levels. If the alkalinity in your pool is low then rust will form.

  • A good sequestering agent, such as Aqua Min-Out, will also work to prohibit rust in your pool.

  • Another option, though a bit more time and effort consuming, would be to drain the pool, treat what is causing the rust and then patch the existing rust with plaster.

  • What ever method you choose to deal with your rust problems, please remember, prevention is the best treatment!
