Things You'll Need:
- Internet
- Cell phone (optional)
- GPS enabled PDA or smart phone (optional)
-
Step 1
Log on to www.gasbuddy.com. Enter your zip code. Gasbuddy uses google maps to display the results of most gas stations located in your area. You may also drag the map to see prices in surrounding areas. Gasbuddy also gives you the list of gas station in the order of low to high gas prices. The best thing about gasbuddy is that you have access to it even while you are on the road. Just text a message to the number with the zip code you are driving in and you will receive an automated text message giving you the list of top 5 cheapest gas stations close to you.
-
Step 2
Log on to mapquest.com. On the main page click on the icon 'Gas Prices'. Enter your address. Map quest uses its own maps to display the results and, like gasbuddy, you may drag maps in any direction to see the prices in nearby areas.
-
Step 3
Log on to MSN Autos (http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx). Enter the address where you would like to know the gas prices.
-
Step 4
If you have a GPS enabled smartphone or PDA and are using a map software such as Tom Tom Navigator 6 you might be able to see the gas prices of the nearby gas stations right on your GPS device. Such service is usually available against a monthly charge.

on 5/15/2009 We have been using 'gas buddy' for several years whenever a new tank fill has been required with excellent result and definite savings. We have also used it when making long trips requiring refilling as we drive, but however were not aware that my cell phone could be used to deliver current information about locations en route as we moved over our planned course of travel. This is a well-stated fuel saving aid for every automotive traveler. Thank you for your advice.
