Yahoo Briefcase is a web-based storage for photos, recordings, music and documents. This article will teach you how to set up and store your desired items as well as retrieve and display files from any computer.

    How to Use Yahoo Briefcase

  1. Step 1

    Create a (free) Yahoo account or sign in if you have an account. (Click "Forgot" information, if you have an Yahoo account but cannot remember your password or user name. Yahoo will email you the information.)

  2. Step 2

    Sign in to your Yahoo Briefcase account. Or, go to the Yahoo Homepage and click "Briefcase". You will need your user name and password to enter Yahoo briefcase.

  3. Step 3

    Select "Create folder". Name your folder according to the type of file(s) you will be using. This is an optional step, but provides greater organization when uploading files.

  4. Step 4

    Click the "Add file" to begin storing files. Files can be stored in folders or individually by name. Add one file at a time and allow sufficient time for each to be uploaded. Check that your newly uploaded files appear on the Yahoo Briefcase web page.

  5. Step 5

    Click "My folders", or the specific folder you want to select from the left hand side of your screen. (This will depend on where you want to upload your file). You should see all files stored within a folder or files listed individually on a page. Each file will appear as a "Clickable" link.

  6. Step 6

    Check the box next to each file. Click "Move" to move any document to another file folder within Yahoo Briefcase.

  7. Step 7

    Click "Edit" to make changes to your Yahoo Briefcase files. The pencil icon is found on the right hand column.

  8. Step 8

    Check the appropriate box next to the file you wish to copy. Click "copy" to copy the file to another folder in Yahoo Briefcase.

  9. Step 9

    Check the box next to the file that you would like to delete. Click "delete" to move the file to the trash.

  10. Step 10

    Click "share with friends" to share files(s) with other individuals or businesses.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have Yahoo mail, you can upload attachments directly to your briefcase.
  • There are higher storage amounts available with paid subscriptions.
  • You can store resumes and bring them with you wherever you go. You can print the documents you save.
  • You can also save the briefcase data on another computer.
  • Your Yahoo Briefcase web address is found at the top of the Briefcase screen. You can give this address (with caution) to business associates, family and friends that you will want to have access to your documents, files, and photos. You can also click "share with friends."
  • You do not have to use any or all of the Yahoo services in order to access Yahoo briefcase.
  • Yahoo photos no longer exists, so you will need to choose another service for storing large amounts of photos.
  • Your Yahoo Briefcase storage capacity and meter is found on the left hand side of your screen. Do not let it get too full.
  • Go through and occasionally delete data you no longer need or move to another website or computer.
  • You can edit your settings to make some of your files public, just do so with caution.
