Step 1
Recycle old sandpaper disks as plant protectors. Simply cut a slit from center to outer edge and wrap around plant stem. Slugs will not cross your new scratchy barrier.
-
Step 2
Recycle aluminum foil by cutting it into small strips and mixing it in with your mulch. This makes it too bright for most insects to stand.
-
Step 3
Dust plants lightly with some cayenne pepper.

on 6/1/2008 Would this also work for slugs on a sidewalk?

on 5/31/2008 If your bed is raised you can put a strip of copper on the sides creating a full barrier. Slugs don't like to cross copper.

on 5/30/2008 I HATE slugs and this beats the "snail death" my grandma used to put out around her plants. The trapped, decomposing slugs were almost worse than the problem!
