Things You'll Need:
- 1 yard cotton fabric
- Various colors of thread
- 1/2 yard of ribbon
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Grommets
- Sewing machine
- Stick pins
-
Step 1
Measure once, measure twice. Start by measuring around the hips where you want the belt to hang, and trim the length to be 3 inches less than that measurement. Trim your width to 11 inches wide so that you have a long rectangle piece of fabric. Turn the fabric upside down now. Fold it lengthwise in thirds remembering to overlap. Shape it how you want it and pin it in place.
-
Step 2
Sew it up. Time for the sewing machine: Stitch the length three times or more, letting the lines cross for decoration and durability. Trim excess fabric and hem the ends. Making it symmetrical is neither necessary nor necessarily desired!
-
Step 3
Add some holes. Using a hole punch, put two holes near each edge of the fabric and fasten the grommets according to label instructions.
-
Step 4
Finish the style. Finally, thread the ribbon crisscross style through the holes, drape the belt over your hips, tie it up and you’re ready to present your latest fashion creation to the world. Or at least the neighbors.
