Austin, Texas is well known for its many art galleries, museums and art collections, which makes it a great destination for those who enjoy cultural spots. Finding the best art galleries will require some planning, though, as there are over fifty in the city.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Look for tourist brochures and information at popular stops, restaurants and hotels. Even if you’re a local resident, these are still the best places to pick up information. If you’re only in Austin for a couple of days, stick to the main galleries and make sure you include in your tour places that feature a mixture of styles and art types.
Step2
Walk on 5th Street to for a series of elegant buildings that double as art galleries, either permanently or to offer temporary exhibits. The best known of these may be ART, a 6,000 square feet modern building that has something for everybody, from Dr. Seuss to abstracts. The Artwork Gallery, just one block away, is a great place if you want a mix of paintings and sculptures.
Step3
Don’t skip the new galleries, such as the Lora Reynolds Gallery and the f8 Fine Art Gallery, both of which are well-known for their exhibits of contemporary artists and urban feel. While some of the newer galleries are smaller, they can turn out to be an oasis if you’re looking to stay away from crowds.
Step4
Visit the official site of Austin’s art galleries to learn about current exhibits, new events and galleries reviews. The website also offers an overview of the city’s most important art galleries, including Art Palace, the Blanton Museum of Art and the Wolly Workman Gallery.
Step5
Don’t forget the museums, in particular the Austin Museum of Art, which offers the best collection of modern art in the city. Hands-on exhibits and children’s programs are also available, which make the city museums a perfect stop for the whole family.
