Look for sales. Many pet stores run regular specials on aquariums, especially set-ups when they want to get rid of a certain item.

Browse pet stores. Even better than the sales, some stores will have large, odd-shaped or unused aquariums clogging up floor space or crammed in the back room. Ask the manager if there are any he wants to get off his hands for a reasonable price.

Check out moving sales. If people are moving a ton of stuff, especially in a hurry, they’ll be glad to let go of their aquariums.

Sometimes you can get a really good deal if you agree to buy the stand and other aquarium novelties. Sometimes it’s worth it, sometimes it’s not.
Be wary of used aquariums that were not used for fish. If someone used it for a rat cage, for instance, there’s a good chance the sealer has been dried out or chewed away.
Apply new sealer on long unused aquariums just to be safe.
