How to Hit in Fast Pitch Softball

Hitting a fast pitch softball is one of the most difficult skills to learn in all of sports. But if you master a few fundamentals, you will increase your hitting percentage

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A bat approved for fast pitch use

    Hitting a fast pitch softball.

  1. Step 1

    Grip the bat with your hands close together. Keep your hands tucked in close to your body.

  2. Step 2

    Place your feet shoulder width apart. Transfer your weight to the balls of your feet.

  3. Step 3

    When the ball is pitched, bring the bat around, keeping your hands tucked close to your body. The swing in softball is shorter than a baseball swing.

  4. Step 4

    While swinging the bat, turn your shoulders and hips toward the pitcher. Your front foot should remain stationary, but your back foot should swivel. At the end of the pitch, your body will be facing the pitcher.

Tips & Warnings
  • Begin your swing before the ball reaches the plate.
  • Pitches tend to be low, so keep your knees bent.
  • Always wear a helmet. The ball is pitched at high speeds from short distances.
