In this article you will learn the basic steps for creating your own podcast.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Microphone
  • Audio Recording Software
  • Website/Blog
  1. Step 1

    1. Choose a topic.
Choose something that you love and that you know. My podcast is on Celtic Music, which I have been a fan of for a long time. You want to be able to discuss your topic well.

  2. Step 2

    2. Find sources of information on your topic.
There are few topics that are static, so you will need to find sources of content. If you choose to do a podcast about a sports team for example, you will need to find websites with news on that team, and the leagues.

  3. Step 3

    3. Setting up your podcast studio.
This can be a simple or complex step. All this step really does is get your voice into your computer. But as I will cover in detail in a separate article, you can do this in many ways with different levels of quality.

  4. Step 4

    4. Picking Recording software.
There are lots of choices here, and it will somewhat depend on preferences and level of quality wanted as well.

  5. Step 5

    5. Recording your first podcast.
I will put an article together with all the steps you will want to think about. Not all will be needed for every type of podcast.

  6. Step 6

    6. Finding a home for your podcast.
This is really 2 steps, setting up a blog and finding a place for your audio files. There are several free blog sites that will work, and some very cheap ones as well. There are also several places that will host your podcast for free. They usually will put a small ad at the beginning or at the end of the show in exchange for the free bandwidth.

  7. Step 7

    7. Add your podcast to podcast directories online.
You will want to make sure you add your podcast to the online directories so that when people search for topics on those sites people can find you.

Tips & Warnings
  • It matters less how often you publish a show than how regularly you do it. Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, or whatever, just do it on time all the time (well most of the time at least)
  • Be passionate. The audience can hear it in your voice.
