A great way to learn Spanish is by immersing yourself in the culture through music. Sing along to the lyrics in order to learn colloquial and common Spanish phrases. Here are some suggestions for using music to learn Spanish.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Music
  • CD player or iPod
  • Knowledge of Spanish music artists
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Choose a few CDs at the music store from Latino artists or download music onto your computer of iPod. Great options are Rocio Durcal (a native Spaniard who enunciates clearly), Carlos Vives (for a Colombian flare and accent) or Mana (a romantic from Mexico).

  2. Step 2

    Listen to the lyrics.

  3. Step 3

Hear the songs several times and start to sing along, pausing the music when necessary to learn a new word or hear how the artist links words together.

  4. Step 4

Read the lyrics in the CD pamphlet or look up lyrics online. Then sing along with the music.

Tips & Warnings
  • Repetition is key. The more times you sing the song, the more you'll be confident in saying a Spanish phrase.
