How to Perform the Conga Movement in Samba
The Conga movement in Samba is one of the most well-known dance routines around the world, and can be performed as part of a partner dance or, more famously, in the Conga line. The Conga movement is an extension of the forward-moving side steps in Samba, and can be performed to almost any type of Samba music. Here's how to get started on your own Conga steps.

Begin with the forward step. Practice the forward step in Conga so you can learn the basic rhythm and movements needed to execute the initial movement.

Begin the Conga movement in the left direction. Extend the forward step to the left and position yourself so the ball of your foot is extended. Do not shift your weight to the left or the right foot at this stage.

Slowly shift your weight. Begin shifting your weight to the left slightly, and adjust your body to accommodate the movement. You will naturally lift your right leg slightly as a result.

Close your movement. Bring the left foot close to the right to finish up this portion of the step. Shift your weight accordingly.

Repeat the Conga movement with the right foot. Extend the forward step to the right and position yourself so the ball of your foot is extended. Do not shift your weight to the right or away from your left foot at this stage.

Slowly shift your weight. Begin shifting your weight to the right slightly, and adjust your body to accommodate the movement. You will naturally lift your left leg slightly as a result.

Close your movement. Bring the right foot close to the left to finish up this portion of the step. Shift your weight accordingly.

Continue the right and left foot sequence as you move to the music. Congratulations! You've just performed the Conga movement!
