How to Schedule Warranty Service on a Car

  1. Step 1

Look up a dealership that services your make and model. Most often, dealerships that sell cars with warranties have a service department. If you bought your car from such a dealership then you can easily look their number up in the phone directory or on-line. If you did not buy your car from such a dealership, you can access the manufacturer of your car on-line via their official website. Click on the warranty link. If you have just relocated to a new area, you can search for a large dealership in your area. If the dealership sells your vehicle, they will most likely be able to perform the warranty service there.

  2. Step 2

Talk to a service technician about the problem. Once you find the place that will service your car under warranty, you will need to contact the dealership. Ask to speak to a warranty or service representative. Tell them about the problems that you are having and make sure they are covered under the warranty.

  3. Step 3

Find out which days and times are available for you to have your car serviced. Plan your scheduled warranty visit for a day and time that is for you. Most dealerships will offer weekend service and many also allow you to drop your car off during the evening and leave the keys in the drop box.

  4. Step 4

Schedule the appointment. Once you have decided on a date and time that fits your schedule, simply show up and drop your car off. Try and arrange a ride home with a friend. In many cases, the dealership will offer a free pick up and drop off service while your car is being serviced.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you did not buy your car from a dealership that services cars under warranty, you can find the car company that manufactured your vehicle on-line. The manufacturer's website will have links to warranty information. You can also check the owner's manual for a toll-free warranty number.
  • Make sure that you have receipts for major services; many times you will have to prove that you have maintained your car according to the requirements of your warranty to receive warranty service.
