As a kid, I used to love those "How to Draw" books and kept checking them out in the school library. Now with the Internet, both kids and adults have several sites that can teach you how to draw for free. In this article, I'll show you a few places where you can start.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer with Internet access
  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Ink Pens
  • Colored Pencils or Crayons
  • Markers
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Any extra art supplies you'd like to use
  1. Step 1

If you want to learn how to draw cartoon animals, check out HowtoDrawIt.com (link included below). A lot of these are very simple and very cute.

  2. Step 2

Drawingnow.com has free videos that you can follow along with. It has instructions on how to draw popular cartoon and video game characters.

  3. Step 3

If you like the Manga art style, I found an interesting site called HowtoDrawManga.com that even has specific facial features such as eyes broken down into steps.

  4. Step 4

I've included more sites below that you can explore. I've tried to include a lot of variety for different age levels.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't ignore the traditional "How to Draw" books--there are a lot of great ones out there that I found helpful. You can find them at public libraries for free. Browse specialty art and drawing magazines while you're there as well.
  • I personally didn't run into anything bad as I was viewing these sites that I'm linking, but some did have a lot of ads so you may want to stay with your child as they explore them or turn on a parental filter just in case anything comes up that isn't kid friendly.
