Although not many role-playing games (RPGs) were produced for the Gamecube, Baten Kaitos quickly became a favorite of many gamers due to its unique battle system. By combining an RPG and a collectible card game, Baten Kaitos appealed to many people with its innovative method of game play. Characters may gain hit points as they level up, but the key to combat is building your deck.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baten Kaitos (Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean)
  • Gamecube
  1. Step 1

Assign each character the special moves that she can use. The most powerful cards in Baten Kaitos are only usable by specific characters, so make sure that each character gets her own power cards in her deck.

  2. Step 2

Use as many versatile cards as possible. Some attack cards can only be played in the middle of a combo, while others can be played to start an attack. Ideally, you want your deck filled with cards that can be played at any time, so you don't have to break up your combos. Including a few power cards is fine, but focus on versatile cards.

  3. Step 3

Include only one element from each element pair. Having a deck with half light and half dark attacks means you'll cancel out your own damage most of the time. Pick either light or dark, not both. (The other element pairs are fire and ice, and time and wind.)

  4. Step 4

Add cards to your deck with more numbers on them. The more numbers are on a card, the higher the chance is that you can include it as part of a bonus damage combo.

  5. Step 5

Try to balance the numbers in your deck from one to eight; once you can use nine-card combos, include a few nines. This will give you a better chance of getting a long straight, which will add lots of bonus damage to your attack.

  6. Step 6

Add one or two curative items to your deck that can restore hit points. Although too many will ruin your combo attacks, having a few healing items can be very useful in long combats.

Tips & Warnings
  • At the beginning of the game, when you can only play three or four cards at once, try to eliminate all ones and eights from your deck. This will give you a higher chance of getting pairs and straights.
  • Don't overload on armor in your deck. In this game, it's better to have a strong attack than a strong defense.
