How to get FREE INTERNET with your LINKSYS WRT54GL v1.1 Router PART I

Things You’ll Need:

• Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 Router
• Computer
• Ethernet Cable

1. First you must change the software, called firmware, that is on your router. Your router will become a repeater. This is reasonable easy to do. Go to http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv3/dd-wrt/downloads.html and download the dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin file to the harddrive of your computer. Before installing the new firmware on your router, you must make sure that the router is at its factory defaults. To do this, hold down the reset button on the back of the router for atleast 30 seconds. This is an important step - don't skip it!
2. Ethernet Cable Use an ethernet cable to connect the router to your computer. Plug one end of the cable into one of the four (4) LAN ports on the router. Connect the other end into the ethernet cable to the ethernet port on your computer. As you can see in the pic, an ethernet cable looks much like a standard phone jack except that it is wider. If you have a wireless card, be sure to turn it off so that it won't cause any interference.
3. Follow the onscreen instructions for upgrading the software on your modem.

Tips & Warnings

• Be certain to follow ALL of the instructions. Don't assume anything.
• Failure to follow directions to the letter will result in bricking the router (it will be effectively dead and will take much work to revive it).
