Instructions

    • 1

Get all of your information together. Before you can begin to actually start your creative resume, you must have all of the necessary information at hand. Locate any information and details you may need for your resume. This includes, but is not limited to: personal and job information (name, addresses, contact info), school information (degrees obtained, certificates, clubs, achievements and so on) and any thing else you feel you may need to complete your creative resume.

    • 2

Decide on your set up. You can make use of specially designed resume software, use word processing resume wizards (you probably already have on your computer) or utilize one of the many online resume-creating sites (many of these sites charge a fee for this service). If you have a word processing application on your computer, you do not need to purchase an additional resume maker program unless you want to. Select the one that will be best for your situation. Open the program, name your resume appropriately (do not forget that your future employer will see this name, if you are emailing it to them) and save the resume before you begin.

    • 3

Do not forget the basic details. Make sure your name and contact information (including cell number and business email address, if you have them) is clearly visible and on your resume. This information can be in the heading of your resume and you can also be creative with it by using different fonts, sizes, colors or even add a small (appropriate) photo to it.

    • 4

Be short and to the point, but do not forget the important stuff either. It is best to keep your creative resume down to relevant information pertaining to the job you are seeking. Try to fit all of your information on one page and no more than two pages. Use selective words (and bullets or other objects) to illustrate your creativeness in your objective, achievements, education, references (this could be put on a separate paper) and job areas of the resume. Always proofread it and make it as professional, yet creative as possible.

    • 5

Present your creative resume in a way to make it stand out in the crowd. You can do a few things to help you present a more unique resume, such as using a different shade, size or texture of paper for it. You could also send it by certified mail, hand deliver it or have an “inside contact” present it for you along with a few encouraging words about you.
