If you're like me, your basement is packed with vintage concert posters of Jimi Hendrix, the Doors and even the Beatles, but you have no idea what to do about it! While you still love the music and the memories of seeing these great artists in concert, you wouldn’t mind making a little extra cash unloading the posters. If you find the right audience, your vintage concert poster(s) can be a very hot commodity. Learn how you can sell vintage concert posters with a little legwork and sound innovation.

Things You'll Need:

  • Flyers
  • Advertising budget
  1. Step 1

Contact several fan clubs of the band. The web site host or a member of the fan club may wish to purchase the vintage poster. Especially if it marks a key performance, event, or album.

  2. Step 2

Advertise the sale of your vintage concert poster(s). This can be done with flyers, word of mouth advertising or purchasing ad space in a newspaper or music magazine.

  3. Step 3

Find collectors who specialize in vintage posters. Depending on the company, the collector may pay less than an over-zealous fan. Meet with several collectors before you make a decision.

  4. Step 4

Network with record store owners. Visit general collectors; even vintage clothing and costume store owners, to find buyers for the poster(s). Ask the store manager to hang your poster in the store to increase sales potential. Offer a nominal percent if the poster sales.

  5. Step 5

Attend any antique shows that visit your area. Rent a booth if you have enough posters. Or attend to hand out flyers to potential customers.

Tips & Warnings
  • While you are waiting for a sale, store your posters in frames with acid-free backing so they stay as pristine as possible.
  • Talk about your vintage posters all the time. Don’t do it to the point of making everyone nauseous, but let all your friends, coworkers and even the cashier in the supermarket know you have vintage concert posters. Hand out fliers so they can pass the word along to people they meet that may be interested.
  • Don’t sell your poster to the first person who shows interest; as you may be selling it below the actual value.
  • Don’t be in a hurry to unload them. Your vintage concert posters are only going to get more valuable with age.
  • No matter how slow the sale may be, do not throw your posters away.
