How to Transfer Data on an Old Laptop to a New One

When you are ready to transfer all your files and information from one computer to another, here is how to do it.

Things You’ll Need:

• Removable media such as a zip drive or media card, or a null modem serial cable to connect the two computers.

1. Turn both computers on and place them side by side. Access the data on the old computer first by following the steps listed below.
2. On the old computer, go to START,
   click on ALL PROGRAMS,
   click on ACCESSORIES,
   click on SYSTEM TOOLS,
   click on FILES ANS SETTINGS TRANSFER WIZZARD.
   This will launch a program that will explain how to transfer the files.
3. Depending on how you are planning on transferring the information (cables that connect the two computers, or media that is inserted in the old computer, has the information transferred to it, and is then inserted in the new computer to download the information to the new computer)-the program will guide you step-by-step on how to complete the transfer.
