Make your own playdough and customize the color with this easy recipe.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tarter (found in the spice section)
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 Tablespoons oil
  • food coloring (optional)
  1. Step 1

In a large saucepan combine the flour, salt and cream of tarter.

  2. Step 2

Stir in oil, water and food coloring.

  3. Step 3

Continue to cook and stir constantly over medium/high heat until dough forms a ball.

  4. Step 4

When dough forms a ball, remove pan from heat, turn dough out on table or counter top, and knead till smooth. (You can wear rubber gloves if dough is too hot to handle).

  5. Step 5

Store playdough in a tightly cover container or zip-lock bag, and it will keep for months.

on 7/22/2009 I used to make this for my kids. We made big batches, and broke it into smaller pieces, then died them individually by letting the kids knead the color in. This makes the play doh more pliable when they go to use it. I stored each individual color in a small zipper bag, and all the bags in one large one.
