Things You'll Need:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Colored markers, pencils or crayons
- Pottery
- Paints
- Brush
-
Step 1
The very first thing you need to do is to plan what type of patchwork pattern you want to have on your pottery. Using a pencil and paper, draw vertical and horizontal lines to serve as an outline for your patchwork pattern.
-
Step 2
Using your colored pencils, markers, or crayons, color in the pattern that you want to have on your pottery.
-
Step 3
Now it's time to transfer the basics of your patchwork design to your piece of pottery. Begin painting your patchwork piece at the top portion of your pottery. Always begin painting at the top of your piece. If any paint should run, you can wipe it up without damaging any other painted areas on your artwork.
-
Step 4
Work in small areas and let the colors dry before proceeding to paint the rest of your piece. If you want the colors to bleed into each other, apply a second color while the first one is still wet.
-
Step 5
After all of your paint has dried, use one common color to emulate stitching marks that join the different patches on your piece of pottery. You can use any type of stitch mark that you want -- from an "X" to "- - -" or anything else. Use your imagination to decide how to show that your patched pieces are joined together!
