Rain can mess up plans for many things, but you shouldn't let it ruin your day at an amusement park like Universal Studios. In fact, both Universal Studios, located in Orlando, Florida and Hollywood, California, have more indoor attractions that outdoors ones, making them ideal for a rainy day. When you are outdoors in the park, a simple poncho should keep you dry. Even if you do get a little wet, a good-natured attitude, and perhaps a towel, will ensure a great day at either Universal Studios park.
Things You'll Need
- Rain boots
- Park ticket
Get a poncho. A poncho should keep you relatively dry during light to medium rainstorms. Purchase a poncho ahead of time if the local forecast is calling for rain, as it will be more expensive to buy one inside Universal Studios. If the forecast calls for a serious downpour, bring your rubber rain boots along as well.
Go on the many indoor rides. Both Universal Studio parks have a majority of indoor attractions that will keep you dry. Some of the cool indoor rides that both parks share include Transformers: The Ride 3D, The Simpsons Ride, Shrek 4D and the Revenge of the Mummy indoor roller coaster. In addition, Universal Studios Orlando has a number of other indoor rides, such as the kid-friendly E.T. Adventure and Men in Black: Alien Attack, while the Hollywood location features a spooky House of Horrors indoor maze.
Take a meal break if the rain is only passing through. Both parks have a myriad of covered dining options, from quick-service spots and fine dining restaurants. You can also peruse the souvenir shops.
Get on the water rides if you're already wet. In particular, the Hollywood location features Jurassic Park: The Ride and Water World. While Universal Studios Florida doesn't have water rides, there are several at its sister park, Islands of Adventure right next door. Ticket deals for both parks are always available.
See a show. Both Universal Studios locations feature entertaining live shows in indoor venues. Those that don't will relocate to a covered location in the event of rain. Universal Studios Orlando has a variety of entertaining shows, such as its Horror Makeup Show, where you'll learn movie makeup from the pros. Universal Studios Hollywood offers the Special Effects Stage, teaching guests the secrets behind some of the biggest movies.
