How to Change Eye Color in Photoshop?

Instead of slipping on rose-colored glasses to see the world in a new hue, try changing your eyes entirely. Take on a new look by changing eye color with Photoshop, the image editing software from Adobe. Although you could change your eye color in real life with contacts, Photoshop lets you try on every eye color imaginable, including those not sold by contacts manufacturers. Photoshop's functionality is also far less invasive than placing plastic in your eyes and gives you a rainbow's range of looks in your photographs within seconds.

    Things You'll Need

    • Photoshop
      • 1

Start Photoshop and click "File." Click "Open" and locate the picture with the eye color to change. Click the image file name and click the "Open" button.

      • 2

Click the "Magnify" tool, which looks like a magnifying glass icon. Zoom in so the person's eyes are large and centered in the Photoshop canvas. If it is easier for you to work at a larger range, zoom in on just one eye.

      • 3

Click the "Lasso" icon. Draw an outline around the person's iris on one eye, the colored part of the eye.

      • 4

Right-click inside where the lines are blinking and select "Layer via Copy." Although the picture doesn't change, you should note a new Layer 1 in the "Layers" palette on the right side of the screen.

      • 5

Click the "Image" menu. Click "Adjustments." Click "Hue/Saturation" from the fly-out menu. Drag the window to the side so you can still see the person's eye.

      • 6

Slide the "Hue" bar to the left or right to run through the color rainbow and change the eye color. Memorize or write down the number in the "Hue" box and click the "OK" button. Now the person has two different colored eyes.

      • 7

Click the Background layer in the "Layers" palette. Repeat the "Lasso" and "Layer via Copy" process. Click "Image," "Adjustments" and "Hue/Saturation" again. Instead of sliding the "Hue" bar, type in the number from the other eye so the eyes are the same color.

      • 8

Click the "OK" button. Right-click any of the layers in the "Layers" palette and choose "Flatten Image." The palette goes back to a single layer. Click the "File" menu. Select "Save As." Click the "Save" button to overwrite the original image or type a new name for the picture to preserve the original, and then click the "Save" button.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Experiment with fun and funky eye colors such as Liz Taylor violet, vampire red, zombie white out and anything else to give your photos a boost. This is also a way to "try on" contacts before making a comitment to buying colored ones.
