Work a Golf Ball

You can learn to hit a draw shot and a fade shot in golf, allowing you to work the ball left or right. The key is adjusting your grip and stance, as outlined below.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Golf clubs
  • Golf balls
  • Practice range
  1. Step 1

Set up to hit a draw shot by closing your stance slightly, which means that your right foot will be slightly behind your left foot as you address the ball, and your feet will be aligned slightly right of the target.

  2. Step 2

Turn your left hand about 3/8 of an inch to the right on the grip to hit a draw shot. Aim the club face directly at the target and hit the shot, which should curve to the left as it approaches the target.

  3. Step 3

Set up to hit a fade shot by opening your stance slightly which means that your left foot will be slightly behind your right foot as you address the ball, and your feet will be aligned slightly left of the target.

  4. Step 4

Turn your left hand about 3/8 of an inch to the left on the grip to hit a fade shot. Aim the club face directly at the target and hit the shot, which should curve to the right as it approaches the target.

  5. Step 5

Experiment with variations in your stance and grip as described, until you get reasonably consistent results with draw and fade swings. With practice you will be able to hit straight, left or right as required by the lay of the course.
