How to Get Ready for Work in Half the Time

How to Get Ready for Work in Half the Time thumbnail
Imagine how good you'll feel in the morning when your work outfit is on a hanger waiting for you.

If you are like many people, you have thought you were all ready to walk out the door, when you suddenly realized you did not have one of those necessary things you need during the long work day. Organizing ahead of time and doing things the night before instead of in the morning go a long way toward getting you out the door quickly. Impress your coworkers by arriving at work without being breathless from racing to get there on time.

Things You'll Need

  • A skirt hanger
  • An old pair of jeans or a skirt

Instructions

    • 1

Organize your closet to save yourself precious time in the long run. Put in one closet rod hung directly over the other and organize your tops and bottoms according to color from dark to light. This way, you can select an outfit at a glance, pull the outfit from the closet and hang it outside the closet door on a hook the night before.

Round up the other items you will wear: underwear, socks or nylons, shoes and and sweater for the office. Keep a shoe organizer with pockets hanging inside your closet door and use one of those pockets to hold the undergarments. Now you should have your entire outfit lined up the night before.

Take a shower at night instead of in the morning. If you have long hair, to save time in the morning, pin it up at night. In the morning take out the pins and let it fall in loose or in tight curls, depending on how tightly you wrapped it the night before. This should keep tangles at bay and take less time to brush.

Office organizers work quite well to hold those miscellaneous items to help pull your look together. Yours might contain ponytail holders, lipstick, mascara, hair pins and a brush -- or shaving gear for men -- sitting right near the bathroom sink.

    • 5

Even the most organized people have walked out the door a few times only to realize that something crucial is missing: work keys, work ID, car keys, glasses, cell phone, change for vending machines. Make a home for these items that is in plain view. An old blue jean skirt will work just fine if you stitch up the bottom. Pack the pockets with all of your needed items and hang it near the door. If this doesn't fill the bill for you, just place a small table or bookshelf very near the door with your necessities sitting in plain view.

Tips & Warnings

  • The more you practice your exit strategy, the easier it will become.

  • You still may need to have a back up outfit, if you have a spill in the morning or rip your pantyhose.

KraziGirl, you're right about that. I have a cat, kitten and dog, and they love to lay on my belongings. That's why I leave them hung up until the last moment, or have to use a lint roller. Their hair looks better on them than on me. lol.

Great tips! I love laying my stuff out because it saves me time and keeps me from forgetting things- the only down-side is that my cats love to lay on my black clothes if I lay them out where they can access them, lol!
