How to Remove Ink Stains from Leather

Leather--it's an expensive and beautiful material to use in furnishing, but it sure is tough to clean. Here are a couple tips you can try to get stubborn ink stains out of your leather furniture. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Remove Ink Stains From Leather With Hairspray

    • 1

Spray a light mist of hairspray on the stain. The spot should be slightly damp, but not soaked.

    • 2

Rub the hairspray gently with dry cloth.

    • 3

Wet a cloth with water and blot the stain.

    • 4

Attempt to lift the stain using the dry side of the cloth. If it doesn't lift, repeat. If this still doesn't work, do NOT attempt to rub the stain out. Instead try the next method.

Remove Ink Stains From Leather With Rubbing Alcohol

    • 5

Apply rubbing alcohol to a clean, dry cloth.

    • 6

Dab the stain gently until slightly damp.

    • 7

Rub the stain very gently with a dry cloth. Blot until the spot is relatively dry.

    • 8

Let the spot air dry. The stain should now be fully removed.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you apply a leather conditioner to the fabric after cleaning, you should be able to bring back some of its luster.

  • Use these tips with caution. Any of these substances can remove dye from leather, so only attempt after testing on a discreet area first.

Thankyou so much, my 2 year old got a hold of an ink pen, and decided to draw all over our brand new leather recliner, it was a light carmel color so I was afraid to try anything, but this really worked, and did not fade the color a bit. THANKYOU :)
