Instructions

    • 1

Gather materials. Colored markers are optional, and will make the final product look even better.

    • 2

While you are drawing the Superman emblem, it is probably best to have a copy of one in front of you for reference points. This will help you make the drawing proportionate and allow you to follow your progress.

    • 3

Use a ruler to create a diamond shape with the pointed end at the base.

    • 4

Add an inner diamond the same shape as the other one, but scaled down. Match the bottom three points and the two top points of the diamond will be slightly inside of the outer two points.

    • 5

Begin drawing the letter S. The easiest spot to start drawing the letter S is the top right side of the letter. Draw a line straight down from the top right inner corner and extend it until it reaches the point of the far right tip.

    • 6

Finish the letter S using a rule for the straight edges and careful freehand on the curves. Keep an eraser nearby because the curves may get tricky and take a few tries.

    • 7

Erase any lines from the inner diamond that the S is making contact with.

    • 8

Create another inner diamond that is equal space between the other two diamonds. Extend a short line out from each point to connect the other points.

    • 9

Add the shadow lines on the letter S to give the emblem a 3-D appearance. The easiest way to do this is by following the original picture. You will begin to see the Superman emblem taking shape and almost completed.

    • 10

The basic symbol has already been completed and it is now time to add some shadows and depth to the drawing.

    • 11

The S and surrounding inner diamond are all a solid color on the emblem. When you are filling this in, start with a light base from the pencil and continue to draw over it to add value. You should color in this section approximately three to four times until you see a pretty solid color.

    • 12

Leave the small sections inside the S blank. They are normally yellow, but for a pencil drawing, just leave them a solid white.

    • 13

Shadow the outer sections using various scales of darkness. On every corner, add a little more darkness and leave some sections really lightly penciled in to reflect the light.
