You want your clothing for vacation to come out of the suitcase wrinkle free and ready to wear. It's not as hard as it sounds but does take a bit of careful packing. Fold your button down shirts to keep them in top condition. If it's a longer vacation, roll tops and shirts to fit into a smaller space.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

    Folding

  1. Step 1

Lay the shirt or top front side down on a flat surface.

  2. Step 2

Fold the sleeves so that they lie against the back of the shirt. It's okay to fold the torso of the shirt in about 2 inches with the sleeves. For a sleeveless shirt, just fold the sides in 2 to 3 inches.

  3. Step 3

Turn the bottom of the shirt up 3 to 4 inches and smooth it with your hand.

  4. Step 4

Pull the top of the shirt back to meet the bottom edge. This folds it perfectly in half.

  5. Step 5

Place the outside edge of the fold against the outside of the suitcase. The collar is toward the middle.

  6. Rolling

  7. Step 1

Follow Step 1 to 3 in Section 1 for folding.

  8. Step 2

Continue to roll from the bottom of the shirt in 3-inch segments until you reach the top of the item.

  9. Step 3

Stack your rolled items together inside the suitcase. Rolled clothing also fits nicely into a duffel bag.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plastic bags reduce friction between clothing items when packing. Recycle your dry-cleaner bags which work best for preventing wrinkles.
