There are nine positions in baseball. The positions are first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, shortstop, right fielder, left fielder, center fielder, pitcher and catcher. They all require practice in order to play. However, the practice for pitcher and catcher is more intense than the other positions and the following will you give some information for practicing to be a catcher.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Improve your defensive moves when practicing to be a catcher. You need someone to throw pitches that are down toward the ground so you can learn to block the ball. Always keep the ball in front of you so you can manage it better.

  2. Step 2

Continue working on defensive moves. Have someone throw pitches that are high so you can get better at letting the ball bounce off your chest. When working on this make sure your chest is towards the ground so the ball will fall in front of you instead of bouncing anywhere.

  3. Step 3

Work on framing pitches. When you frame a pitch, you turn your wrist towards the inside of the plate so you can convince the umpire that the ball is a strike and not a ball. By doing this you can help your pitcher get more strikeouts and help him to cut down on the number of pitches he needs to throw.

  4. Step 4

Practice throwing the ball to second base. You need to have someone throw pitches that are high, on the ground and outside, so you can practice catching these pitches and throwing the ball to second base. You need to do this fast in order to catch base runners trying to steal.

  5. Step 5

Try to practice with the pitchers you will catch for so they can work on their pitching while you are working on your catching. This will be helpful for when you are playing the game.
