A thangle is a paper strip that helps quilters make half square triangles with ease. Thangles are made of paper and come in different sizes for different sized projects. While sewing half square triangles can be a bit tricky, thangles make the process almost error-proof.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Purchase the proper size thangle sheets that you will need for your quilting project. You will want to purchase as many as you need. Only use one paper thangle one time.

  2. Step 2

Cut strips of the cloth for your half square triangles. Cut these strips a little larger than the thangle sheet. You need two different types of fabrics, usually one light and one dark. As you sew these strips together you end up with finished squares instead of having to piece a bunch of small triangles together. It's best if you cut out all of the fabric at once so you can continue to sew your quilt without stopping.

  3. Step 3

Layer your two fabrics with right sides together that will make your half square triangles. Position them on the paper strip thangle. Pin all three layers in place to keep the fabric and paper from moving around too much.

  4. Step 4

Sew along the dotted line provided on the thangle. Sew several of these in a row in a chain-piecing format to make the job a little quicker.

  5. Step 5

Trim away any fabric that is hanging over the edge of the thangle. This is extra and unnecessary.

  6. Step 6

Cut along the solid line on the thangles. Now you have a bunch of half square triangles
