After you finish painting the inside of your food tray you need to work on the back of your food tray. Painting the back of the food tray makes the finished product look more complete. A food tray that is painted on the back as well as the front is not only useful, but also a decorative piece for your home. The painted tray looks attractive sitting on a shelf or a table.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tray
  • Sand paper
  • Damp rag
  • Newspaper
  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  1. Step 1

Sand the back of the tray with fine sand paper. Make sure the back is completely smooth.

  2. Step 2

Wipe the back of the food tray with a damp cloth to make sure that all the particles left from the sand paper are removed. Then let the tray dray before continuing.

  3. Step 3

Choose the color you want to paint your tray. It should coordinate with the colors on the front of your tray.

  4. Step 4

Squirt some of your chosen paint right on the back of the food tray. Only do this if you are using just one color on the back of your food tray or if this is your base coat.

  5. Step 5

Spread the paint around the back of the tray with your paintbrush. Make sure to spread the paint around evenly. Be careful of making streaks with your brush. To eliminate brush strokes use a sponge brush. This would be a good time to add pictures for decoupage if desired.

  6. Step 6

Let the paint of the back of the food tray dry completely. After that you can add extra embellishments. You can paint more designs on the back of your food tray to match the front. The back of the food tray can be just as beautiful as the front.

  7. Step 7

Allow the paint to dry thoroughly once you have completed painting your designs.
