Things You'll Need:
- Unfinished polymer clay bowl
- Clay
- Clay oil or olive oil
-
Step 1
Place your polymer clay bowl upside down on the table. In a moment, you will use it to take a measurement. If you are afraid of scratching or "denting" the top of the unbaked bowl, you should place a soft piece of cloth or towel underneath it.
-
Step 2
Cut a small piece of clay with your clay knife. Remember, when making a rim for a bowl, a little clay will go a long way.
-
Step 3
Roll your clay into a long thin rope. When it comes to the color of your polymer clay bowl it is obviously up to you. But when you are preparing the rim, if you choose to mix colors, know that you are going to have to roll your clay several more times in order to get a true color blend. When rolling the clay, think of the way you would roll dough. Simply use your hands back and forth until the clay reaches your desired length and width.
-
Step 4
Measure your rope around the edge of the polymer clay bowl. This is going to be a bit of trial and error. If you have too much for your rim, simply cut some away with your clay knife. If you have too little, add some clay to your rope and re-roll it out.
-
Step 5
Press the clay around the rim of your polymer bowl. Once you are happy with the size, simply press down so that the clay grabs hold to the rest of the bowl.
-
Step 6
Add a little bit of oil (available at craft stores specifically for clay) and smooth around the rim of the bowl. The oil helps act as a sealant, securing the rim to the bowl.
