How to Attach a Polymer Clay Bowl Base

When it comes to decorating your home or giving a gift to someone, there is nothing cooler than actually making it yourself. It adds that little bit of "you" to the gift or space you are decorating. Here are some tips on how to attach a polymer clay bowl base to a pre-made bowl before you fire it and set the clay.

Things You'll Need:

• Polymer clay bowl (unfinished)
• Polymer clay bowl base (still soft and not set)
• Scraper

1. Place the bowl so it is upside down on your work station. You may want to place something under the top of the bowl so that it doesn't scratch.

2. Score or scrape the bottom of the polymer clay bowl base with your scraper. This is a clay tool that is similar to an awl. In fact, if you don't have a scraper, an awl or edge of a knife will do just fine.

3. Add your craft glue (specifically made for working with polymer clay) and play it in the scores you've just created. Also add a thin layer on the base itself.

4. Press the base (sometimes called a foot) against the bottom of the bowl. Hold it there for a minute to allow the glue time to bond.

5. Check to make sure the base of the polymer clay bowl is flat. Because the clay is so sticky before it is baked, it has a tendency to get slightly out of shape when attaching it. Flip the bowl over so that it is now right side up. Then press the edges of the base down so that they are again flat.

6. Leave the bowl to rest for about a half hour so that the glue continues to form its bond before firing.
