A floater frame is a new way of framing everything from a stretched canvas to your photographs. You can create your own floater frame at home. The floater frame will give the appearance that the picture is floating within the frame, which gives it a dramatic touch.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose the framing material you want. You should look for a frame that does not have a lip in it.

  2. Step 2

Cut the frame sides to the appropriate the lengths for your picture. Apply glue to the corners and clamp together. Allow to dry overnight.

  3. Step 3

Remove the clamps and apply wood filler to the holes from the clamps.

  4. Step 4

Nail the frames along each corner and apply wood filler to cover the holes.

  5. Step 5

Arrange your stretched canvas in the frame. Flip the canvas and the frame over.

  6. Step 6

Using an electric screwdriver, screw through the back of the frame into the back of the board that the canvas is mounted on. Do this on each of the four corners of the frame.

  7. Step 7

Remove any dust from the frame. Attach your hanging bracket and hang from the wall.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that your canvas is centered before you add screws. If your picture is off center in the frame it will ruin the effect. You may want to mark the back of the canvas lightly with pencil to make sure you keep it centered.
  • For photographs, purchase the glass floater photo frames that are available at the store. Otherwise you can mount the frame on a canvas stretching frame by tacking it to the frame and then blacking the edges of frame.
