Many people have boxes overflowing with photographs. If you have this problem, consider taking back the space. Frame the pictures using wooden molding. It's a productive and fulfilling hobby. Now, you can display your photographs and enjoy them instead of letting them collect dust.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Measure your photograph or piece of artwork. Record the measurements on a piece of paper.

  2. Step 2

Find out the size of the interior of the frame including the mat. Use the decorative border of the mat as a window and determine the dimension of the layout for your picture.

  3. Step 3

Select the color or the type of wood such as oak, walnut or ebony frame. The color and pattern in your artwork influences the place that you hang the picture. Ideally the choice compliments the decor of the room.

  4. Step 4

Purchase pre-cut wooden picture frame molding or do-it-yourself. Use a handheld saw to cut the wooden molding. Cut quickly for more accurate lines.

  5. Step 5

Sand the frame thoroughly. This method ensures that the seams in all 4 corners are cleanly closed.

  6. Step 6

Mount the artwork into the frame. Place the foam board mat behind the artwork.

  7. Step 7

Have glass custom cut for the frame. Locate a merchant or visit a retail store that specializes in glass work.

Tips & Warnings
  • Carefully consider what type of glass, to use for your frame. If you are framing a valuable photograph, invest in a plexi-glass or UV protection glass.
  • If you're framing multiple photographs, layout an arrangement of the pictures using the measurements.
