Matching ties can be stressful if you don't know what to wear them with. Black and white are always safe choices and are easy to mix and match with different ties. A black suit and white shirt is classic and can go from day to evening well. Stripes and patterns are also nice, but they can be harder to mix and match.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Think of the whole look when getting dressed. Start with choosing a tie you like, and match the rest of the outfit accordingly. Diagonal stripes, polka dots and subtle patterns will always look good on ties. Try buying shirts and ties together that will mix and match with what you have at home.

  2. Step 2

Match your tie to your shirt if you wear a black suit, most any shirt and tie will match a black suit. If wearing a colored suit with a white shirt, match your tie to your suit.

  3. Step 3

Toss the suit if it's too dressy. You can opt for dress pants and a crisp shirt for a more casual look. A white shirt can go with any pants, you just need to coordinate your tie and pants if you go that route.

  4. Step 4

Combine black and white with any tie. The beauty of black and white clothes is that they are so versatile and go with everything: suits, pants or shirts.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your socks should always match your pants, and in doing that they will go well with your tie.
  • Keeping a selection of shirts and ties that all mix and match can be helpful when getting dressed. This way you'll know anything you grab will go together.
