Curls add something special to an updo. Instead of a simple french twist, for example, you can create a flowing, spectacular look. All it takes is a curling iron, some hairspray and imagination. Follow these steps to use a curling iron for an updo.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comb or brush
  • Curling Iron
  • Hairspray
  • Bobby pins
  1. Step 1

Section off the hair. If you want your entire head to be full of curls, pin up the majority of your hair, leaving a small line of hair at your neck.

  2. Step 2

Spray the hair that's down with hairspray. Wait a few minutes for the hairspray to set.

  3. Step 3

Make sure your curling iron is hot. Gather a small section of the recently sprayed hair.

  4. Step 4

Place the ends of the hair in the clamp of the curling iron. You need to make sure the very ends are in the clamp or they'll get crimped.

  5. Step 5

Roll the curling iron in the direction of the hair until it's all curled around the iron. Hold it for 10 seconds until the heat permeates through all the layers of hair. Release it by letting go of the clamp and letting the hair fall down.

  6. Step 6

Continue spraying and curling small sections of your hair. Once you're done with the bottom section, release some more hair from the pinned up portion. Slowly curl it all.

  7. Step 7

Spray the curls with hairspray once again. Tighten the curls by gathering the hair in the palm of your hand and squeezing. Your hair is now ready to be pinned up into an updo.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hold your fingers on the hair that's curled around the curling iron. Once you feel heat come through the hair, you know it's time to release it.
