How to Add Clips for Rolling Curly Hair

Rolling curly hair requires the use of several clips to hold the curly hair in place. The clips secure the bottom of the curly hair close to the scalp before it is rolled. The most common hair clips for curly hair are plastic or metal.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Comb out the curly hair. The curly hair should be fully extended before it is clipped. This gives the stylist a better idea how the hair will lay once it is out of the rollers.

  2. Step 2

Put the clip underneath the roller. The clip is designed to hold the hair in place and secure it on the roller.

  3. Step 3

Attach a clip to both sides of the roller. Thick wavy hair needs to be held in place more securely and may require using two clips. Heavy curly hair benefits most from this technique.

  4. Step 4

Tidy up the position of the clip. The clip should not be set against the upper sections of the hair as the resulting dent will not only be visible but also will interfere with the overall hair style.

  5. Step 5

Smooth out any bumps and re-roll the hair if it cannot be smoothed. Curly hairstyles will often have bumps and spaces due to the wavy, entangled nature of curly hair.
